Vitamins are "The Organic compounds required in the diet in small amounts to perform specific biological functions and proportionate growth in living beings" and vitamins play very important role in maintaining our health. Generally we get all the necessary vitamins by the regular diet which includes milk, vegetable, fruits and etc.People having regular diet might not suffer from any kind of vitamin deficiency but people who are on customized diet plan which neglects the consumption of essential food items such as fruit might cause some problems due to deficiency of a particular vitamin. For e.g. People trying for weight loss have caloric deficit diet in which they can not consume fruits as the sugar(Fructose) present in it might lead to gain weight and the person might suffer from vitamin C and E deficiency. This is just an example of vitamin deficiency.
This deficiency could be treated with medication only when noticed, if overseen then the effect of deficiency will be long lasting and might take time for medication to cure it.

Vitamin A specifically is not a single compound, in fact Vitamin A consists naturally occurring unsaturated organic compounds which includes retinol, retinal, retinoic acid, pro vitamin A and Carotene(beta carotene to be mores specific).
