Bad Effects of Chocolate consumption.

There is no problem with pure cocoa powder available naturally or the packed one which is the key ingredient of chocolates. In fact many brands who manufacture the chocolate flavored whey protein use cocoa processed with alkali as the flavoring agent. The original cocoa bean powder in fact is high in protein, packing somewhat same nutritional values of mung beans.

The real problems arises when we talk about processed milk chocolates and chocolate bars. Although named as milk chocolate, these milk chocolates are mostly made up of saturated fats in the form of Cocoa Butter and Vegetable Oils and fillers such as maltodextrin in some cases also.

Saturated fats are associated with many chronic health problems apart from obesity. Saturated fats increase the LDL(low density lipoprotein) Cholesterol which is one of the factors responsible for heart disease. Although some kind of saturated fats such one present in Eggs and Edible Coconut oil have cholesterol but it of different kind i.e HDL (high density lipoprotien) Cholesterol which responsible for removing and maintaining LDL cholesterol levels. In short HDL is good cholesterol while LDL is bad cholesterol. The saturated fats present in chocolate is definitely not the good one so if you are into weight loss then it should be avoided.

Maltodextrin is not a poisonous compound yet its effect are poisonous. Maltodextrin is nothing but a kind of simple carbohydrate with the highest glycemic index of all carbohydrates.
